Welcome!
I wonder if someone is going for paperless statements only? I've been through this debate, because what if I know something from a statement a year ago? I question the general consensus here .
Thanks Guys

I all honesty, I'm keeping my taxes and investment account information for 10+ years. Not because I like the paperwork. I either download them electronically (PDF), or scan them into a PDF.
Then I save them off to an external hard drive, so they are good for quite some time.
Credit card statements are either never received (electronically is the easiest), or shredded once they are paid in full, or at least the minimum balance is paid.

Reply:I pay everything electronically (except our electric bill which only recently offered online payment for a $5.00 fee!), but I want all of the paper statements so I have a record. I don't trust myself to always remember to print a copy online each month.
Many bills I've paid before I ever receive the statement, and I just file them with little review. However, I do review them a little for changes in terms or unexpected notices.

Reply:I manage and pay all of our bills online, but I still get the paper statements so I have a hard copy to file. I keep those as a CYA thing just in case. We always get a PO Box wherever we live and have all of our mail sent there so I am not terribly concerned about our mail getting stolen.

Reply:I haven't used paperless statements only because I use a different e-mail address for bills to cut down on spam to my regular e-mail account. I don't check the "business" e-mail except a couple times a week, though I suppose I could change that habit, if necessary.

That's exactly what I do. By the time the paper statement comes, I've already paid it online and I just throw it away. I do not trust that I will get my statements in the mail on time so that I can pay them on time. Also, it's easier to keep track of statement dates as I can see the statements online as soon as they are generated – instead of waiting a week or two to get it in the mail. I get PDF files online of all my statements and I can very easily just save them to my computer and print them out if needed at a later date. The only company that offers electronic statements in which I haven't accepted is my home phone (MCI). MCI even charges $1 extra every month for paper statements, but in order to offer online statements, I have to sign up with autopay and I prefer to choose which card I want to pay with every month so I pay the $1 and still pay online and throw the statement away.
My father kept ALL his statements, for all the years he had a credit card. And let me tell you what a NIGHTMARE it was going through all his papers when he passed away.

Reply:I'm paperless on most bills. I can always go online and get a detailed statement, besides when bills come in the mail I rarely open them because I keep track of everything and pay everything online. I get enough mail as it is.

Reply:I'm not paperless on any accounts yet (except ING) but I think I'll try it out soon. Citibank offered me some sort of incentive to go paperless when I signed up, but it was only like $5 so I didn't go for it.

Reply:i prefer paperless statements. it means i'm less prone to identity theft from mail. the only statement i get paper for was mbna, but i sockdrawered that account starting last week.
as long as you have reminders to yourself that a bill is due, you should be ok going the paperless route.
some of my accounts offer a pdf of the paper statement that would have come in the mail. i save those pdf files on my computer and back them up regulary with other important files.
Reply:I'm paperless on two accounts only. Those accounts have the option of requesting paper statements to be started again upon request. I've not had a problem with either of these accounts to date. The full statement is posted online and archived for six months. If you want a paper copy, you can print it out from the online statement or you can save the info to your hard drive.
Reply:I despise electronic statements. I keep every scrap I can get my hands on that pertains to accounts. I've had decade-old statements save my ass on more than one occasion and having the Terms and Conditions is another thing that has resolved more than one potential problem.
