What is your favorite short-term investment (5 years...be specific)?

Gold. Cash will worthless in five years
Exception here; I acquired a fair amount of bullion coins as part of an inheritance, most bought in the '80's. It is a good reserve, and helped pay for Mom's long-term care following the 2008 meltdown. Now it is a back-up asset, complementing our much larger IRA and brokerage accounts. So, there is a place for gold (and silver) investments, like bonds and all else. Although only 2% of our portfolio, it is good to have when all else goes to hell. Might merit, 5% of a portfolio.
