I am glad that many have priorities that include charity or mission work. I wonder about many I know who do these things in Africa, South America and as you mention, the Middle East. However, why look so far outside of our own neighborhoods? There are many people in my own community who need a new water heater (or a thousand other things) that make their lives better. In charity, I know I can't help, or make an impact on the masses (United Way, Red Cross <which I won't contribute to at all>), etc. But I can help Julie. A person of interest to my son who is working hard to better her life with a young son who can't yet. So the IMPACT I can have on one or two, it far greater than the impact I can have on anyone giving money to United Way etc.
