Questions about 1040ES

I have the IRS2GO app on my phone and would like to pay my estimated taxes using the app and withdrawing the money from my Fidelity checking account.   Do I actually have to file the paper form 1040ES with the IRS?    I figure as long as they are getting my money electronically and the app designates the withdrawal is for 1040ES I should be good.  Any guidance on this is appreciated.   I'm not a fan of using snail mail.

Speaking from bloody experience. If I were you I'd use paper compliance (snail mail ) with signature. Remember they are the GOVERNMENT AND ARE THERE TO HELP. IMHO

I would presume not. I have used the EFTPS: The Electronic Federal Tax Payment System | Internal Revenue Service  to schedule and send estimated payments, and you don't mail them anything. You just record the payment, and enter it on your tax form. They do give you some online ack, which I save into a file. They never asked for it. I also get the payment showing up in my Fidelity transactions.
 
In signing up for EFTPS, they do mail you a PIN number that you use to actually activate that, but that is a one time thing.
 
I suspect the IRS2GO may be similar for sign-up, but I don't know. Did they mail you a PIN initially?

I have had the same positive results from EFTPS for the last 2 years. I do manually mark down the transaction number each quarter.

I have the same experience using EFTPS for the past 5 or more years.  You get a "Deposit Confirmation" screen with details on the amount of payment, date, TY, etc. after you have submitted your payment.  You can print the contents of the screen and keep it for your records.

My CPA files my return electronically but all my quarterly payments are made in US Dept. of. Treasury self addressed envelopes with a check inside. I send them all Certified Mail with a return receipt requested.
